Helmet-Cam

"The... brass helms recall McCourt’s earlier interest in the modeled-steel portrait head, an ancient artistic preoccupation; these are a light-hearted/-touched try at encasing in brass the personalities of their subjects. Their final forms were only arrived at after much putting on and taking off – constituent parts on helmet and helmet on head."
-Rob Willms

Ryan McCourt's Portrait Helmets runs until December 20 at Common Sense.

  1. Nice Visual effects, like seventies porn

  2. "Modeled-steel" being not so much the ancient form that "portrait head" is, of course.

My wavering taste has caused me to consider a succession of helms as the best of the bunch, but I think I've settled on "Helm of the Critic" as the one I'd trade good work for.

  3. I'd take the Helm of the Elvish King into any campaign.

  4. I'm glad this video was posted as we were out of town the night of the opening, so unable to attend. The pieces are all very interesting with such detail. I especially like the medusa and the gardener. congrats on the work and the show.
